Install on Macbook
These instructions are meant for Mac OS users who want to run the legacy desktop wallet.
At the end there is an instruction on how to import data obtained from the export tool for users who used the hosted wallet at
heatwallet.com
You can run the linux version of the legacy wallet on your macbook through UMT in several simple steps.
If you follow these steps you’ll have the legacy desktop wallet in no time.
- Download an
ISOfile to your computer (this contains the Linux Operating System approx 3GB download) - Install the free
UTMapplication to run linux on your Mac Book - Open
UTMand select the ISO you downloaded and follow the on screen instructions (just click Next for all questions) - In your Linux screen download then run the legacy wallet
Step By Step
Step (1) Download Linux ISO
Visit the Xubuntu project page.
Click the DOWNLOAD button, scroll down on the next page where you see a list of countries. Select a country near you.
Select the file that ends with -desktop-amd64.iso and click on it to download the ISO file to your Macbook.
Step (2) Install UTM
Visit the UTM project page
Click the DOWNLOAD button, once downloaded double click the downloaded file UTM.dmg. In the dialog that opens drag the UTM icon to the Applications folder to install the UTM application.
Step (3) Create the Virtual Machine
In the next step we’ll use UTM to create a new virtual machine based of the ISO file we downloaded.
Before proceeding you must determine if your macbook is Intel based or Apple Silicon based. If you don’t know what type of chip is in your Mac, go to the
About this Macscreen, on theOverviewtab look for a line that indicates eitherChiporProcessor
Launch the UTM application, click on Create a New Virtual Machine.
Now your chip type determines the choice in the next step. Intel users choose Virtualize, Apple Silicon users choose Emulate
We choose Linux in the next step.
Click the Browse button and select the ISO we downloaded before.
Now keep clicking Continue all the way until the final page in the dialogs. When you reach the last screen click Save to create the virtual machine.
Your virtual machine is ready for use, click the play button to start it.
Choose the top selection by clicking on the Virtual Machine window and then hitting the ENTER key on your keyboard. The selection says Try Install Xubuntu
When Linux launches click the Install icon shown in the screenshot below.
In the installation screens choose the default selection for all screens until you are asked for a username and password.
When asked for a username and password choose a name and password of your liking, then keep clicking continue until your asked to click Install proceed with the installation. This process might take a while depending on your device capabilities, eventually it will finish.
Once installation has finished you are shown this screen.
Do not choose
RESTARTbut close the Linux window and start theVirtual Machineagain using the play button in theUTMapp like you did before.
Excellent, from now on you can always start your Linux VM from the UTM app, just make sure you choose the option Boot from next volume and press ENTER to start your VM.
Step (4) Install Legacy Wallet
Use the username and password you have chosen before when installing the Linux VM and continue to login.
Naviagte to the main menu and open the Internet Browser (Firefox in this case)
Copy the following address https://github.com/heatcrypto/heat-ui/releases then paste that in the Firefox address bar. Paste by right clicking your mouse and choose PASTE, most likely a keyboard CMD+V combo wont work.
Double click or otherwise download the link that starts with heat_client_*.zip, make sure you see the downloaded ZIP file as shown below.
Unzip the installation file by right clicking and selecting Extract here. The file will be extracted and in the next step you can launch the Legacy Heat Wallet.
You can launch the legacy wallet by double clicking the heatwallet icon.
Whenever you want to use the legacy wallet, remember to start UMT, start your VM and launch the legacy wallet.
