You can run the linux
version of the legacy wallet on your macbook through UMT
in several simple steps.
If you follow these steps you’ll have the legacy desktop wallet in no time.
- Download an
ISO
file to your computer (this contains the Linux Operating System approx 3GB download) - Install the free
UTM
application to run linux on your Mac Book - Open
UTM
and select the ISO you downloaded and follow the on screen instructions (just click Next for all questions) - In your Linux screen download then run the legacy wallet
Step By Step
Step (1) Download Linux ISO
Visit the Xubuntu project page.

Click the DOWNLOAD
button, scroll down on the next page where you see a list of countries. Select a country near you.

Select the file that ends with -desktop-amd64.iso
and click on it to download the ISO
file to your Macbook.

Step (2) Install UTM
Visit the UTM project page

Click the DOWNLOAD
button, once downloaded double click the downloaded file UTM.dmg
. In the dialog that opens drag the UTM icon to the Applications folder to install the UTM application.

Step (3) Create the Virtual Machine
In the next step we’ll use UTM
to create a new virtual machine based of the ISO
file we downloaded.
Before proceeding you must determine if your macbook is Intel based or Apple Silicon based. If you don’t know what type of chip is in your Mac, go to the
About this Mac
screen, on theOverview
tab look for a line that indicates eitherChip
orProcessor
Launch the UTM
application, click on Create a New Virtual Machine
.

Now your chip type determines the choice in the next step. Intel
users choose Virtualize
, Apple Silicon
users choose Emulate

We choose Linux
in the next step.

Click the Browse
button and select the ISO
we downloaded before.

Now keep clicking Continue
all the way until the final page in the dialogs. When you reach the last screen click Save
to create the virtual machine.

Your virtual machine is ready for use, click the play button to start it.

Choose the top selection by clicking on the Virtual Machine window and then hitting the ENTER
key on your keyboard. The selection says Try Install Xubuntu

When Linux launches click the Install
icon shown in the screenshot below.

In the installation screens choose the default selection for all screens until you are asked for a username and password.

When asked for a username and password choose a name and password of your liking, then keep clicking continue until your asked to click Install
proceed with the installation. This process might take a while depending on your device capabilities, eventually it will finish.

Once installation has finished you are shown this screen.
Do not choose
RESTART
but close the Linux window and start theVirtual Machine
again using the play button in theUTM
app like you did before.

Excellent, from now on you can always start your Linux VM from the UTM
app, just make sure you choose the option Boot from next volume
and press ENTER
to start your VM.

Step (4) Install Legacy Wallet
Use the username and password you have chosen before when installing the Linux VM and continue to login.

Naviagte to the main menu and open the Internet Browser (Firefox in this case)

Copy the following address https://github.com/heatcrypto/heat-ui/releases
then paste that in the Firefox address bar. Paste by right clicking your mouse and choose PASTE
, most likely a keyboard CMD+V
combo wont work.

Double click or otherwise download the link that starts with heat_client_*.zip
, make sure you see the downloaded ZIP file as shown below.

Unzip the installation file by right clicking and selecting Extract here
. The file will be extracted and in the next step you can launch the Legacy Heat Wallet.
